Lordsburg, NM to Deming, NM - 61 miles
It rained overnight and ended as I finished eating breakfast, so I took off. After I made it about 10 miles down the road, however, the clouds darkened and the rain began to fall. It lasted for about 15 miles - ending right before I made it to the rest area where I was going to wait it out for a bit. I did still stop though and had a snack in one of the unique picnic huts.
I was cruising along quite nicely today until a small nail gave me the first flat tire of the trip. Given the amount of debris I've gone over, I'm surprised it took this long. The Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires continue to impress.
It was the rear tire, of course. Had to deal with the chain and the derailleur. So, I did my routine and replaced the inner tube. I either missed something else, or the inner tube was defective, because a couple miles down the road it was flat again. The next inner tube seemed fine. And, by the time I made it to Deming, it was sunny.
Quite a few things to be down about today including some people in a truck yelling at me as they went by, but there was a tailwind and I still made good time. I was also able to pick up a new inner tube and some chain oil to clean the chain a bit.
Tomorrow may be windy. Let's see if we can cap off the year on a good note.
