Rillito, AZ to Vail, AZ - 40 miles
40 miles - Strong headwind
Had a great couple of rest days staying with my grandparents over Christmas. I even snuck in a couple of disc golf rounds at the Red Mountain Disc Golf Course. I've played a number of rounds here before. Had plenty of rest and plenty of food (Grandma's cooking is always great).
Started off from Rillito today, northwest of Tucson. Poor roads and no trails between Mesa and Rillito. No need to risk it. I followed an extensive trail system most of the day including through Tucson. Passed by a number of parks, the Pima Air and Space Museum, and the Santa Cruz Disc Golf Course where my dad and I have played disc golf before.
Tucson has much to see and do. The last time I was in Tucson though, last winter, I broke my thumb on a hiking trail. I'll try to forgo that experience this year.
The trails primarily followed the Santa Cruz River and the Julian Wash Greenway. Did see one coyote trotting through the river wash. Many people took advantage of the day by walking or biking on the trails. Nice sunshine and temperature today aside from the strong headwind. Back in the groove and ready to keep on tomorrow. Hopefully the weather cooperates this week. It has the potential to get a little iffy. I'll keep an eye on it.
